Multiple Light Emitting Diodes

Multiple LEDs (LEDM) for the mid-IR spectral range become a new component base for portable optical sensors for gases and liquids. Such LEDs are miniature and highly efficient.
The absorption bands of many important chemical compounds lie in the spectral range of 1.6-4.6 μm. In this regard, the main applications of LEDMs are the following:

- sensors for carbon dioxide - monitoring the emissions of CO₂ as the main means for prevention of global climate changes;

- sensors for methane - monitoring of CH₄ leaks in buildings where natural gas is used, along pipelines, in mines;

- moisture sensors and sensors for water content - measurement of the amount of water in the oil, moisture in the paper, grain and others;

- medical diagnosis:
optical spectroscopy analysis of content of CO₂, acetone and other substances in the exhaled air;
non-invasive monitoring of glucose and other organic substances in the blood, lymph and tissues
